Super Phase 2078
Super Phase 2078 is a two-part analogue artwork and short film shot on Super 8mm and 16mm film. It is composed of scenes that gradually converge into a reflection on metamorphosis. Across both parts, the work explores transformation not as a smooth or linear process, but as a rupture-biological, spiritual, emotional, and ⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠. It looks at the ways existence breaks apart, reconstructs itself, and reveals new forms through cycles of decay, ⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠, and renewal.
It also extends into physical space through a series of artworks created for the film, including a fully playable custom deck of cards. In this deck, the clubs and spades are replaced by flies marked with traditional card signs and ⊠ symbols respectively, while the hearts and diamonds are substituted with brain symbols that appear both with and without card signs. The Jack cards are replaced with the number 11, and the Jokers with zeros. Despite its altered symbolism. The deck can also be used to play Solitaire.
In the film, Adelaide interacts with the card deck through three different arrangements that mirror the structure of the book "Super Phase 2078". The book consists of 81 pages divided into three sections: 1–27, 28–54, and 55–81. Across its pages, illustrations of a brain appear in 81 distinct shades. Although each image is unique, together they create a continuous gradient that gradually shifts from light to dark.
The second part begins with perhaps the most classic and somewhat cliché image of transformation: the moth. It follows the stages of its metamorphosis from egg to larva, larva to pupa, and pupa to winged form. This biological thread continues through mitosis prophase, metaphase, and anaphas where cellular division becomes a mirror for the fragmentation and reshaping of the ⊠⊠⊠⊠.
Sphinx ligustri (Sphingidae) from Siberia and Perigrapha circumducta (Noctuidae) from the Altai Mountains disintegrate into pieces in order to reconstruct themselves as a single new existence, reenacting crucifixion.
Here are all the moths that were used to recreate cellular division as a form of biological metamorphosis. Most of them originate from Siberia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. ⊠. Antha grata Noctuidae ⊠. An ⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠ of accusation, where fingers of blame converge upon a cat, its back arched in silent defiance. ⊠⊠⊠⊠ ⊠⊠⊠⊠ the exact point of intersection 'half of half' to indicate the dimensional median between where ⊠⊠⊠⊠ ⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠ and when the metaphase ⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠⊠.
Originally, the second part of the artwork was intended to be shot on 16mm, with 8mm as a backup and digital as a backup for the backup. However, the 8mm footage and the low-fps shots scanned at 24fps matched the artwork's aesthetic better. The 16mm shots also turned out well, so I assembled a separate short video using them.
